Compression Molding

Compression molding is similar to making a waffle. It is ideal for parts made of medium-hardness compounds or softer and consists of:

• Allowing a polymer to “flow” into a mold
• Closing the mold and compressing it with heat
• After curing, trimming off “overfill”

Pittsburgh Plastics Manufacturing compression molds polymer gels (such as IsoGel^®), foams (such as IsoFoam^®), and our new hybrid material GELoam^® as well as products with and without fabric or films and rigid components.
