Injection Molding

Injection molding is a manufacturing process that allows us to handle a wide variety of materials. It accommodates single- and multi-cavity mold production for IsoGel^®, other thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs), thermoplastic urethanes (TPUs), nylon, polyethylene and polystyrene. It includes these steps:

• Heating of material to “plastic flow” temperatures
• Injection of material, under pressure, through sprues into the mold cavity
• Simultaneous heating and cooling of molds to balance plastic flow and part solidification

Pittsburgh Plastics Manufacturing has a member of its engineering team who specializes in the process, which is used to create products such as respirator clips, specialty valves, insole products and seat cushions.
